Scott Anton Berentson

April 16, 1950 - February 24, 2014

He Felt Most Peace There...

Scott Anton Berentson, of Mill Creek, passed away at his home Monday evening February 24th, 2014 after a strong and courageous battle against cancer. He was born in Boone, Iowa on April 16, 1950 to Olaf and Betty (Larsen) Berentson.

During his growing-up years he traveled around the world, being an "Air Force Brat." The family lived in Iowa, Nebraska, New Mexico, Colorado, Germany, and finally settled in Everett, Washington. He attended Mukilteo School District schools and graduated from Cascade High in 1968. He graduated from the Navy Corpsman School in early 1969 and worked at Balboa Naval Hospital until receiving an early discharge due to spinal ailments. He was always proud that he had made it through Corpsman School and had been able to serve for a time at the hospital.

In earlier years he worked as a quality control inspector for different local companies, making parts for Boeing planes. He enjoyed his work and was good at what he did; even though the job was very stressful. Until retiring he later worked as a groundskeeper for the Snohomish Golf Course. He often spoke about how he loved being out on the course in the wee hours of the morning and he took special delight in watching the mother ducks and their young on the lake. He felt most peace there.

He also was a "computer whiz," often helping friends and neighbors with their computer woes. "Take it to Scott, he'll fix it!" He enjoyed Facebook and had many friends around the world with whom he was in constant contact. He was also an avid baseball and football fan - so happy he lived to see the Seahawks win a Superbowl! He kept well abreast of world events and politics and enjoyed discussing them with everyone. Music brought special joy to him - from classical to rock and roll. He also loved animals and enjoyed feeding the squirrels peanuts in the morning from his back porch.

He married Vickie Blair in 1984 and they have two beautiful daughters; Kara and Deanna. He was always very proud of his girls and made sure their childhood was filled with nothing but love, laughter, and joy. He took them to nearly every park in Snohomish County growing up and his girls sure did love his homemade Chocolate Malted Milkshakes.

He was preceded in death by his younger sister, Cara. He leaves behind his parents, Ole and Betty Berentson of Mill Creek, daughters Kara (Jake) Goodman of Everett and Deanna Berentson of Everett and their mother, Vickie Berentson, also of Everett, and his step-daughter Tanya Parsons of Lynnwood. He leaves behind two grand-children; Blake Littlejohn and Kaelynn Goodman. Scott will be cremated and did not want a funeral. The family wishes to thank all the hospice people who helped us in every way possible, especially Nata, Janice, and David. We'd also like to give special thanks to Sharon, his good friend and helper - she made each day a little brighter for him.

If you wish to offer a remembrance, please consider sending a donation to Providence Hospice of Everett in his honor. Scott would have liked that.

The Courage of Life

The courage of life is often a less dramatic spectacle than the courage of the final moment; but it is no less a magnificent mixture of triumph and tragedy.

John F. Kennedy

If Death is Kind

Perhaps if death is kind, and there can be returning,
We will come back to earth some fragrant night,
And take these lanes to find the sea, and bending
Breathe the same honeysuckle, low and white.

We will come down at night to these resounding beaches
And the long gentle thunder of the sea,
Here for a single hour in the wide starlight
We shall be happy, for the dead are free.

Sara Teasdale
