Proceeded in death by her father Eduard Hermes and her brothers Stephan, Ben and Jakobus Hermes. Survived by her husband of almost 50 years Dick F.deQuilettes, her mother Julianna Straver-Hermes-Theys, age 99, brother Rolf Hermes, her son Donny James and grandchildren Monique, Raquel and Luke (Mother Holli deQuilettes), daughter Cynthia Joy and son-in-law Byron Hansen.

Being born in Indonesia in 1938, and surviving the Japanese occupation of World War II, her family moved to Holland in 1953 by ship, a journey taking over a month, going through the Suez Canal. She graduated from high school in 1956, and then worked at an insurance company form 1957-59. Next she worked at a Christian school from 1959-61. She also sang in the local Pentecostal church of Amsterdam where her father pastored, and there caught the eye of a young sailor, later to her future husband Dick deQuilettes in 1959. After waiting 18 month for Dick to return from his tour of duty, Dick asked for her hand in marriage from his soon to be mother-in-law, since Jeanette’s father had recently passed away, and they were wed on December 4, 1961.

After only six months of marriage, they immigrated along with their life-long friends and family, Stephan and Ria Hermes to Edmonds,WA. There they started their new family and had a son, Donny James and daughter, Cynthia Joy. Jeanette had a loving heart for people, and always liked to have fun. She also was a practical joker who used sneezing powder and icy-hot on her friends. After seeing the “American Dream” of owning a home come true, God directed them to the mission field. They partnered with Bethel Temple of Seattle and Jeanette went back to the land of her origin, and supported her husband in the Bible school from 1977-82. She was living out the life of a Proverbs 31 woman, and came back to the States to see her children finish high school.

For the next 20 years she was a homemaker at their residence in Edmonds, also helping her husband with their business, and many times she helped watch and raise her lovely grandchildren. In 2002 she became involved with the nursing home ministry of Westgate Chapel and moved out to Snohomish, WA to be closer to her grandchildren whom she dearly loved. She did this with a Godly passion until her death. She passed away peacefully in her home in Snohomish on November 8, 2010. She went far too quickly. We will miss you dearly Mom, but you will always be the best part of us.

FUNERAL INFORMATION

A Celebration of Life was held on November 13, 2010 at 11:00 AM, at Westgate Chapel in Edmonds, Washington.

They will be divided amongst three organizations that Jeanette loved. 1) Local church in Batu, East Java, Indonesia (Pastor Flor Daniels) 2) Local church in Njimegen, the Netherlands (Pastor Tim Then) and 3) Nursing Ministry of Westgate Chapel Edmonds WA United States of America.
