Betty L. Harmon

March 12, 1925 - November 26, 2010

The Voice of Biddle & Crowther

Betty “Boop” Harmon passed away, after an extended kidney illness, on November 26, 2010. Betty was born March 12, 1925 to Eli and Louise Atwood in Spokane, WA. In 1938 they moved to Ballard, WA, where her father started Eli’s Bakery. Betty graduated from Ballard High School in 1943. While in high school her lunch hours were spent at the bakery working the lunch counter. Her love of music led her to play the violin and eventually she became a member of the Seattle Junior Symphony. After high school Eli’s Bakery was sold. In 1946 Betty’s family moved to Everett, WA where, they started Atwood Fur Farm. It was because of the mink business that she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Harmon. They met in the fall of 1951. Their first date was to a Ballard H.S. homecoming game and dance. They fell in love and were married on March 9, 1952. Soon they took over the fur business. They raised their family there until retiring from the mink business in the fall of 1973. Then Betty and Bob moved to Edmonds and Betty went to work for Asta and Asta Employment Agency in Lynnwood, WA as an employment counselor. In 1976 she went to work for Biddle & Crowther, in Seattle, WA as a receptionist. She became the first impression and “the voice” of Biddle & Crowther until she retired in 1995. In 1997 she moved to Mariner Village Retirement Park in Everett, WA.

Betty was known for playing practical jokes on co-workers and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, music, entertaining and being with her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the love of her life.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob Harmon, in September 1982 and son-in-law Paul Toivonen in September 1980.

Betty is survived by her three daughters, Susan Wagner (Donald), Olympia, Cathy Turner, Japan, and Shelle Harmon, Everett. Two grandchildren, Aaron Harmon, Olympia, and Shirin Lane (Marcus), Japan. Four great grandchildren, Emma Harmon, Korin, Harmon and Harper Lane. Numerous cousins and close friends.

Her family would like to thank the Hospice teams that provided such loving care to our mother. They made it feasible for her to stay at home as long as possible.

Looking into the portals of eternity

Looking into the portals of eternity teaches that the brotherhood of man is inspired by God's word; Then all prejudice of race vanishes away.

Just as the Wave Cannot Exist

Just as the wave cannot exist for itself, but is ever a part of the heaving surface of the ocean, so must I never live my life for itself, but always in the experience which is going on around me. It is an uncomfortable doctrine which the true ethics whisper into my ear. You are happy, they say; therefore you are called upon to give much.
