Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and colleague

After a short but hard fought battle, Jan passed away peacefully at home from complications of cancer.  She is survived by her husband, Steve Cobb; daughter, Heather Smith (Casey); grandchildren Alexandra, Michel and Jared; sister, Joan Vaughn (Ken).  Her father (Byron Strange) passed away three days after Jan.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Jessimai Strange.

Jan married Steve Cobb in 1972 and welcomed Heather into their home in 1973.  After two years, they moved to Seattle, bringing her closer to her family.  After obtaining an accounting degree from Central Washington University, she became a Certified Public Accountant, beginning her career with her own practice in Edmonds, Washington. Residing in Edmonds for the last 35 years, Jan has worked with many clients, serving many for over 20 years.  Her clients were also her friends and she helped them with passion.  Her daughter remembers her as a driven mother who encouraged her to pursue her goals without ever giving up.

Jan was very active with the Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance, the Washington Association of Certified Public Accountants and other professional organizations.  She also supported the performing arts as a long standing member, and a behind the scenes volunteer, for the Edmonds Driftwood Players and as treasurer for the DeMiero Jazz Festival.

Jan loved to travel and had the chance to explore Ireland, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Canada, Mexico and numerous places throughout the United States.  She also enjoyed making jewelry and trying her hand at various types of crafts.

Jan’s greatest joy in life was her family, especially her grandkids.  They were the center of her being and brought her happiness every time they were together.

FUNERAL INFORMATION

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held for Jan and her father on March 4, 2017, 2:00 pm at the Edmonds Yacht Club, 326 Admiral Way, Edmonds, WA 98020, on the Edmonds waterfront.   Please see the map and directions link below to Edmonds Yacht Club.

A wife, a mother, a grandma too,
