Florence "Flo" Lindstrom

March 26, 1932 - April 20, 2016

Florence “Flo” Lindstrom (née Straw) died on April 20, 2016 in Seattle, WA at the age of 84.

Flo is lovingly remembered by her husband of 63 years, Roland; children, Eric (Kelley), Gretchen Pigott (Rand) and Carl (Lisa); grandchildren Rachel, Dan (Shannon), Kyra, Jacob and Sophia; great grandchildren Anna and Dorian; sister Elva Weeks (Bob); and numerous extended family members and friends.

Flo was born on March 26, 1932 in Seattle, WA to Morton and Zoa Straw. She attended Bryant Elementary and was a 1950 graduate of Roosevelt High School. She and Roland met as students in the UW School of Art and were married in 1952.

Aspiring as a young girl to be an art teacher, Flo continued her studies part time while raising her family, earning her BA in Art Education from the UW in 1967, 17 years after she first started her college education. Her studying was an inspiration to her children and instilled in them the value of goal setting, hard work and follow through. She enjoyed a 27 year teaching career, starting at Jane Addams Jr. High School and retiring from Nathan Hale Sr. High School.

Flo was a talented artist, keeping Roland busy framing and hanging paintings throughout their Kenmore, WA home of 56 years. When the city of Kenmore was being formed in 1998, Flo and Roland felt the new city should have its own art show and established The Arts of Kenmore, a nonprofit organization, which has produced the Kenmore Art Show annually ever since.

For those who knew Flo, she will always be remembered as the consummate hostess. Nothing made her happier than the gathering of family and friends for a party or reunion. This spirit of hospitality bore witness to Flo’s abiding faith in Jesus, as did her attributes of generosity, love, perseverance, volunteerism, prayerfulness and spunk.
