After retiring from the Navy he worked on Washington's Grand Coulee Dam and Rock Island Dam along with some Montana's dams, diving to inspect and clean the trash racks and repairing cement. He also worked as a metal-smith at the Seattle Shipyards for several years and in 1972 became an officer for the Lynnwood Police Department until retiring in 1994. He was a Volunteer Fireman for Snohomish District 7 for 12 years; a 4-H leader for 48 years and volunteered his help at the Evergreen State Fair during those years.
