WWII Veteran

Robert Kinberg Thompson, 95, of Snohomish Washington, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2016 at his home in Snohomish WA. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives were touched by his service in WW II and his love, kindness and caring to all that were fortunate to know him.

Funeral Burial service will be held at GAR Cemetery on Saturday April 2, 2016 at 1:00 PM with Family, US Coast Guard officiating and local Legion Director in attendance. The pallbearers are: son, Kurt Thompson, son, Gerry Thompson, son, Robert "Robbie" Thompson, Grandson, Tyler Thompson, brother in law, Carl Nord, brother in law, Bill Nord.

Robert Kinberg Thompson was born in Tacoma, WA to Oscar and Florence Thompson on August 14, 1920.

Robert served his Country during World War II from April 25, 1942 to March 20, 1947 in the United States Merchant Marines Division of the United States Coast Guard. His rank was Assistant Engineer Steam. He served on the ships SS William M. Prescott, SS El Cedro, SS Isaac McCay, SS Jonathan Harrington, SS Diamond Head, SS RC Brennan, and SS Hall Young. During World War II he was decorated with the following ribbons: Merchant Marine Emblem, Atlantic War Zone Bar, Pacific War Zone Bar, Mediterranean Middle East War Zone Bar and the Merchant Marine Combat Bar.

He enjoyed serving his Country, being married to his lovely wife, Evelyn, his family, hunting, fishing, farming, travelling, telling jokes and reading.

Robert is survived by his wife, Evelyn Ann Thompson to which they enjoyed sixty-seven years of life together, his eldest son, Kurt Kinberg Thompson, middle son, Gerald Dale Thompson, youngest son, Robert "Robbie" Thompson, and their wives, Jeannie, Carrie and Karen, his brother, Ken Thompson, his brother-in-law, Bill Nord, brother-in law and his wife, Carl and Judy Nord, his most beloved grandchildren, Tyler, Nikki, Jadelyn, Tarin, Torri, Tana, James, Erica, Danielle and Sean. He is also survived by eight (8) great-grandchildren and one on the away.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars, www.woundedwarriors.com. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Providence Medical Centers and specifically, their hospice team, Companion Care, and our very special "adopted" family member and one of the kindest and most loving care givers Deborah "Debbie" Anderson. Thank you for the kindness and love and the best medical care anyone could ever have asked for.
