Dorothy Anne Daniels

March 30, 1933 - December 3, 2018

On December 3, 2018 Dorothy Anne Daniels peacefully passed into the arms of Jesus after having lived deeply and meaningfully for 85 years. She was a woman of style and strength, immensely loving and loyal. She had a playful spirit and a beautiful smile. She loved being busy and was not one to sit still for long. She loved knitting, crocheting and gardening but her ultimate gift was the food she crafted in her warm and welcoming kitchen.

She was born on March 30th, 1933 in Tacoma, Washington to Robert and Dorothy Spencer (McIntyre).  She graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma in 1951.

She developed and maintained precious friendships during these childhood years, making lifelong friends. One group in particular included Dee Carlsteen, Jeannie Hubert, Margaret Moore, Kay Standifer & Arlene Wambold. They became known as “The Big 6” and stayed connected throughout their lives.

Dorothy raised her daughters (Darcy, Diana and Dara) with strength and independence following the dissolution of her first marriage. As a single woman she was employed as a key punch operator for Tacoma Boat. It was there that a coworker and dear friend introduced her to the love of her life, Lew Daniels. Dorothy and Lew shared a deep faith in God, a love for family, a desire to travel and love of UW Huskies football.

Her marriage to Lew added 4 bonus children to her life: Dottie, Leon, Lynn and Richard. Dorothy held incredible love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. When asked, she would proudly recite the current number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, listing their names and birthdays while sharing the most current pictures. Until her final years, when Alzheimer’s had its greatest effect, each child, grandchild and great grandchild was remembered and held dear.

In her retirement years, she had great adventures traveling the country by RV with her husband, Lew. They followed the sun, basking in its warmth, to make up for years of damp Washington weather. They often visited with friends and family for extended periods of time, parking the travel trailer as close to family as possible for frequent visits.

She will be greeted in heaven by her husband Lew and is survived by her precious children and their spouses: Darcy Graham & Denny Corum, Diana & Ken Graham-Bell, Dara Graham, Dottie & Dan Graham, Leon & Marge Daniels, Lynn & RaeAnn Daniels and Richard & Debbi Daniels. Memories of times with Dorothy will be cherished by an extensive family including her much loved siblings and their spouses: Robert ‘Mick’ & Donna Spencer, James & Laura Spencer, Kenneth Spencer, June & Jerry Thorne as well as sisters in law Darlene Spencer and Marilyn Spencer. She is preceded in death by her dear brothers Norm Spencer and Louis Spencer.

She was blessed with the gift of numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was immeasurably proud of them and held each and every one dear to her heart.

Her faithful canine companion (Sonny) is slowly adapting to his new life without her lap to relax upon.

We thank the amazing humans at Seasons of Grace AFH and Evergreen Hospice for the loving and compassionate care provided to Dorothy in her final days. We are grateful for you.
