Jean Bernice Hughes
February 23, 1934 - October 5, 2018
Jean Hughes, 84, of Seattle, WA, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2018 in the presence of her children.
Her Memorial Service will be at the North Seattle Church, 2150 N 122nd Street, Seattle WA 98133, on Saturday October 27, 2018 at 2:00 pm, with reception following at 3:00 pm at the church.
Jean was born at her grandparent’s home in Seattle, and grew-up in Preston, Washington. She attended Issaquah High School and Seattle Pacific College where she majored in Education. She worked as an Elementary School Teacher, Sunday School Teacher, and Banker, but her primary goal in life was her family.
In retirement Jean kept busy with many interests and activities. She volunteered at her church office, rocked seriously ill infants weekly at Children’s Hospital, and tutored needy children. She had a passion for travel and went on many international trips and cruises. Jean was an avid Mariner’s fan, watching virtually every game on TV or live at the ballpark.
Jean was preceded in death by her wonderful parents, Art and Nancy Pendell, and big brother James Pendell. Her survivors include two children: Brent Kip (Mary) Hughes of Clarence, NY, and Kimberly Jean (Doug) Durnford of Everett, WA; four grandchildren, Justin Durnford, Sarah (Chris) Miller, and Preston and Tori Hughes; three great grandchildren, Emmika, Daijah and Eric; step-daughter Debbie (David) Youngblood; sisters Virginia Lintott and Nancy Swaziek; sister-in-law Lila Pendell; and numerous special nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and college roommates.
Jean requested In lieu of flowers she would like gifts to go to the North Seattle Church or Seattle Children's Hospital.
