Alberta Louise Born
February 22, 1920 - March 12, 2016
Daughter of Fred and Anna Martha (Coerber) Schaaf, Alberta was born on a farm near Deerfield in Kearny County, Kansas, and educated in Lutheran and public schools in Wichita, Kansas. After attending the University of Wichita for two years (1936-38) she taught for eight years in Lutheran and public schools in the Wichita area. In the summer of 1946 she returned to the University of Wichita, receiving her B.A. degree in 1947. At that time she also became certified as a medical technologist and worked in that field in Tacoma, Washington, and in Wichita.
While working in Wichita she met and married the Rev. Clarence Henry Born. With the exception of two years in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, they served congregations of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in the Kansas District - in Marion, Holton, Scott City, Coffeyville, and Haven. When Clarence retired in 1986 he and Alberta moved to Seattle, Washington, where he continued to serve as a chaplain in the nursing home and jail ministries.
She was preceded in death by Clarence (April 29, 2014) and survived by four sons - Steve and his wife Karla (daughter Juliana) of Everett, Washington, Dan and his wife Catherine (son Graham) of Lawrence, Kansas, Rick and his wife Ellen (sons Evan and Zachary, daughter Alicia) of Glendale, Arizona, and Randall and his wife Ella (daughter Zoe) of Lynnwood, Washington.
FUNERAL INFORMATION
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church south of Snohomish, Washington.
