Anna Marie Lopez

January 17, 2001 – February 20, 2021

Our beloved Anna Marie Lopez, age 20, died in an accident Saturday, February 20 on the lake in Lake Stevens, WA.

Anna was born January 17, 2001 in Reno, Nevada to Mari Antonia Cady and Santiago Hurtado Lopez. Mari and Anna moved to Everett, WA in 2002 and soon Nate Madison of Everett became Mari’s husband and Anna’s stepdad. Anna gained a brother, Matthew, in 2005.

Anna’s childhood was spent in Everett and Lake Stevens, where she attended Highland Elementary, North Lake Middle School, Cavalero Mid High, and Lake Stevens High School. While at Cavalero and LSHS Anna was a member of the band and enjoyed playing the clarinet. Anna later transferred to Crossroads/Open Doors in Granite Falls where she was working toward her high school diploma. Anna was very proud of her job repairing and cleaning chimneys for A-Clean Chimney of Everett. She recently started a new job at Wendy’s in Lake Stevens where she was enjoying getting to know her coworkers and regular customers.

Anna was a kind, funny, resilient young woman with a beautiful smile and mischievous spirit. She loved to swim, loved hiking and camping, loved pasta and flaming hot Cheetos, and especially loved her two cats, Koda and Kitty. She was spontaneous and loved a good adventure, from tubing on the river to indoor skydiving. Anna was also a big goofball who could be counted on for her funny faces, silly videos, and generally making people laugh. You couldn’t help but be Anna’s friend, and once you were, she was your friend for life.

Anna also loved her family fiercely. She was one of 17 second cousins on her stepdad’s side, often spending the Christmas holidays and Labor Day camping trips with parts of her extended family. After reconnecting with the Lopez side of her family she was warmly welcomed by even more cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents.

Anna would want us to acknowledge that mental illness and substance abuse were part of her story as well. She had challenges and setbacks but always kept trying to find her way forward.

Anna’s family and friends are devastated by her sudden loss. We take comfort in the hope that Anna has been reunited with those who preceded her in death, including her mother Mari Cady of Granite Falls, WA and father Santiago Lopez of Tijuana, Mexico.

Anna is survived by her brother Matthew Madison and stepfather Nate Madison of Marysville, WA; grandmother Maria Victoria Hurtado of Reno, NV; grandfather Cesar Lopez Hernandez of Reno, NV; grandparents Dean and Jodi Madison of Casa Grande, AZ; and many, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.
