Anna M. Clark

March 23, 1920 - May 5, 2020

The spirited Anna M. Clark celebrated her 100th Birthday March 23 2020 and snuggled into the arms of her lord Jesus Christ May 5, 2020. Anna was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years Allen C. and two sons David and Timothy Clark (Mary). She is survived by two children Sarah Sundin (Ken) and Peter A. Clark (Kathleen) seven grandchildren Shauna Quaale (Ryan) Krista Sampson (Vic) and Noah Clark (Hillary) Daniel Clark (Jennifer), Aaron Clark (Anna), Marcie Pesceone, Fred Sundin (Nicole) and Erik Sundin (Caitlin) and 22 great grand children.

Anna was born in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania to A.L. and Dale Goble McAdams. Her grandfather Robert McAdams was the last surviving member of his Pennsylvania Civil War Regiment. Anna’s father with several others developed the children’s ministry, Child Evangelism Fellowship. Anna attended Wheaten College in Illinois and married Allen who had just graduated from the University of Pittsburg and was on a four-day leave from the Navy.

When WWII ended in the fall of 1945, Allen returned from the Pacific to Pittsburg to a wife packed and ready to move to Oregon. She had read in the National Geographic that Oregon was beautiful and the place to begin their young marriage. Arriving on the west coast they found many others recently discharged from the military plus significant housing shortages.

During Allen’s thirty years with Chevron, mom was very flexible with dad’s frequent travels and multiple relocations. On the home front, when dad was out of town, mom maintained a tight rein on her four rambunctious children dealing with cats, dogs, and kids 4-H projects of steers and chickens.

At each new location mom and dad found a church and became actively involved whether it was Child Evangelism Fellowship, teaching college Bible studies, Sunday school, or being a deacon or elder. Mom was a gracious hostess, fabulous cook, generously entertaining all who came. Their home was always open.

At Christmas she worked a few years in sales at the original Seattle Bon Marche’ and was very pleased with her success in sales. When her children entered their high school and college years Anna became an executive secretary, first in the Edmonds School District and later at the University of Washington.

Anna enjoyed playing her piano, was a competitive bridge player, voracious reader, swimmer, volunteer mentor in an adult literacy program, and prayed fervently for family and friends. . At the Mountlake Terrace Pool, she and a dozen other women were met by Charlotte Davis who instructed and coached them into competitive masters synchronized swimming. Anna competed locally and nationally with the Kaleidoscope Synchronized swim team until she was 80. Again her competitive spirit brought her and her teammates many blue ribbons.

Anna and Allen lived in Edmonds for 65 plus years, were charter members of Calvin Presbyterian, and so appreciated the many kindnesses given to them in their later years. No memorial is planned per Anna’s request. She will be interred with her husband at Mt. Tahoma National Cemetery.
