Lisa Beryl Fowler
May 20, 1941 - April 6, 2019
Lisa Fowler passed away peacefully in April 2019 at the age of 77 with family and one of her oldest friends by her side, after a short but fierce fight against a sudden and aggressive lymphoma brain cancer.
Lisa was born in May of 1941 to Marjorie and Erwin Baer in Seattle, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Dean Baer, and her husband, Kermit Dennis Fowler. Lisa and "Denny" were married for more than 50 years. They shared a love of travel, including cruises through the Panama Canal, and her favorite: Shanghai, China. They enjoyed 25 years of winter trips to the Big Island of Hawaii, culminating with purchasing their own condo in Kona. They were generous in sharing their condo with friends and family, with many memories made on the Kona Coast!
Lisa grew up in North Seattle, graduating from Roosevelt High School. She attended the University of Washington and pledged the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, gaining life-long friendships. She left school early to marry Denny, and together they moved to Oahu, HI where he was stationed in the U.S. Navy. She often spoke of the independence she gained from this experience. When she and Denny eventually moved back to Seattle, Lisa worked for the Bell Telephone Company, and later, the doctor's office of Thele, Bell, Hill and Welsh. She returned to the University of Washington (while raising three young children) and finished her degree in home economics.
Lisa was a longtime member of the Daughter of the American Revolution - Rainier Chapter, where she served as Regent, as well as many other supportive roles. She shared her love of genealogy with her mother Marjorie, and her daughters Jenn, Erin, and Denise. Jenn enjoyed many trips Back East with Mom to attend DAR National Conventions.
She had many interests, including ballet, reading, and sewing. A ballet student herself in high school, she passed on her love of the art to students as a ballet teacher. She encouraged her daughters and grandchildren with frequent trips to the Pacific Northwest Ballet, as well as lessons for any grandchild that was willing! She was an avid reader of mysteries, and was always on the lookout for the next great author to discuss at her book clubs. More importantly, she loved sewing and quilting, to the tune of at least nine different sewing machines! She belonged to quilting clubs in both Seattle and Kona, and loved to share her creations with others. She felt you could never have too much fabric, or thread, or buttons!
She was a loving grandmother (Grammy) to Anna, Henry, Taylor, Jacob, Michelle, Kristina, Solomon, and Maya. She spent time caring for each of the children at some point in each of their lives. They were fond of swimming in the pool, sewing arts and crafts, and eating cheese sandwiches!
A memorial to celebrate her life will be held Saturday May 11th at 3:00 pm at Unity of Lynnwood. 16727 Alderwood Mall Pkwy, Lynnwood WA 98037
