Nelly Lakabaung
September 20, 1957 - May 18, 2018
Nelly Lakabaung, age 60, unexpectedly passed away on Friday May 18th, 2018 at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, Washington. Nelly was born and lived all of her life, until the last year and half, in the Marshall Islands. She was born in Majuro, Marshall Islands to parents Jerry Lakabaung and Tarmoj Rikin. Nelly received her Associates Degree in Nutrition and worked in her field of study for the U.S. Government educating residents of the Marshall Islands about proper nutrition and diet, retiring in 2013.
Nelly loved to travel, which suited her career as she traveled throughout the islands educating and also traveling to the U.S. mainland visiting her children and grandchildren. Nelly lived the last year and half in Indiana and Washington State, so she could be closer to them. Traveling allowed Nelly to meet new people and she “never met a stranger”. She had a remarkable memory for people; often remembering the names and faces of those she had met years prior.
Nelly was a loving mother to her three sons and two daughters, Eric Maijohn, Derek Lakabaung, Rick Lakabaung, Ribin Maijohn and Pearlynnia Lakabaung. She was also dearly loved by her grandchildren Chynel Marose Maijohn and Jerry Maijohn. Nelly was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her children, grandchildren and eleven brothers and sisters, as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by all of her family. May she rest in peace.
