Alma J. Norris
December 26, 1921 - December 04, 2015
Alma J. Norris went to meet her Savior after a brief hospital stay, on December 4th, 2015, at the age of 93. She was born in 1921 in Los Angeles, CA to Arthur James Behrens & Hazel Elizabeth Hall Behrens. At only 1 year of age, she and her older brother, Edward, were orphaned, but she was subsequently adopted by Lammert & Mary Beek in Lynden, WA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Norris, and her brother, Edward Behrens. She is survived by adopted sister, Alice Beek Zwiers of Bellingham, WA. She will be greatly missed by stepdaughters, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Alma retired from the Department of the Navy in Washington D.C in 1974. She and husband, Tom, raised English Pointers for many years at their home in Oxon Hill, Maryland, before eventually moving to Rileyville, VA. She lost the love of her life, husband, Tom, in 1981. Later in life, she moved from the East Coast back to Washington State to be near her older brother, Edward Behrens. They had stayed in contact over the years, but were able to enjoy several years living close to each other, before Edward passed away in 2012.
Up to the day she went into the hospital, one of Alma's greatest joys was to play gospel music on her spinet piano, which was in the great room of the cottage in which she lived. The director of The Cottages always said she could tell how Alma was feeling by the vigor with which she played.
