Obituaries

Antoniette Reyes Fernandez

April 14, 1947 - March 6, 2022

Her name is Antoinette Reyes Fernandez. She was born on the 14th of April 1947. She was from the small town of Lianna, Philippines to her parents Estratonia and Antonio Reyes Sr. She lived there until she wanted to pursue her college degree in Southwestern University which is located in Cebu. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education and became a kindergarten teacher back in her hometown, Lianga. While she was still in school in Cebu, she met a young man and quickly fell in love. His name was Lorenzo Castro Fernandez. They got married, and three years later they had their first child, Eduardo. 11 months after, they gave birth to their second child, Bernadette.

Antoinette was a teacher for about five years. After leaving the education industry, she was offered a job as the mayor’s assistant in the town of Lianga for 8 straight years. At this point, Eduardo and Bernadette were themselves attending a university in Cebu and so she and Lorenzo packed up and moved to Cebu to be with their son and daughter. She was hired at the main post office in Cebu City. She worked there for about twelves years. She was in charge of the accountable mail such as certified and registered mails.

Her husband Lorenzo passed away in the year 1989. She retired from the post office in 1995 and came to the United States to be with Bernadette in Seattle, Washington. She moved in with Bernadette and Eric and that is when they realized what a special human being she was. She was the kindest, most loving type of person, who was always there for her family and friends in so many ways. She was a generous soul who would help those in need without hesitation. She was an incredible cook, specializing in Filipino dishes and her lumpia shanghai was legendary. You could always find her over over a hot stove, with a smile on her face and singing and humming herself to herself as she cooked.

She was a God fearing woman and a devout Catholic. Prayer was her daily time of solitude and peace. She was a strong pillar of the family, respected by her co-workers and loved by everyone who knew her. When she came to Seattle, she began a whole new career when she got hired as a Certified Nursing Assistant at a fine convalescent care facility called Hearthstone. She loved her work and held that position right up to the time she passed away on March 6th of this year, 2022. Her patients truly lost a great caregiver. Her family and friends lost an angel on Earth and the world lost a bright light in the dark.

We will all miss you Mama, you wonderful woman, Antoinette Reyes Fernandez. We love you dearly and look forward to seeing you once again in heaven.
