Kenneth Norman Kullberg
October 1, 1943 - August 15, 2023.
Kenneth “Kenn” Norman Kullberg, 79, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in Snohomish, WA on August 15, 2023.
He was born to Richard D. and Barbara E. Kullberg on October 1, 1943 in San Rafael, CA and grew up in San Diego, CA.
Kenn attended the University of San Diego on a basketball scholarship while earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. It is here that he met the love of his life, Leslie Sheahan, and they wed on June 24, 1967.
He Commissioned in the Air Force in 1967 as his first career and served 20 years as a Meteorologist with a tour in Vietnam, along with stations at Bitburg Air Base (Germany), Scott Air Force Base (IL), Langley Air Force Base (VA) and Fort Leavenworth (KS). He also attended the University of Washington studying Meteorology during his Air Force career. He retired in 1987 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
After the Air Force, he then started his second career at Boeing working as a Quality Engineer at the Everett, WA plant where he enjoyed the opportunity to problem solve both for Boeing and their suppliers. He spent 15 years with Boeing and retired in 2002.
In 2002, he then started his third and final career as a teacher at Edmonds Community College. He was known as “Mr. Kenn” to his students and spent 10 years teaching different levels of Mathematics, ranging from Introductory Mathematics to Statistics. He retired from teaching in 2012 and enjoyed complete retirement with his wife, Leslie and their beloved cats.
Kenn was a life-long learner and seeker of information. He attended four graduate programs working towards master’s degrees in Mathematics at San Diego State University, Management in an overseas program through the University of Arkansas, Meteorology at the University of Washington and Operations Research at the University of Kansas.
Later in life he continued this pursuit of information and learning by becoming involved in Emergency Management for his local communities, as well as obtaining the highest class of license for HAM radio operators and taking over his father Richard’s call sign.
He was also a tireless advocate for others. Whether it be for his family, students or anyone needing help, Kenn was always the one to look to for a solution or assistance.
He also worked vigorously for the National Alliance of Families on the POW/MIA issue for years, even after his retirement from the Air Force.
He is survived by his wife, Leslie, sons Brian, Kevin and Stephan (Malia) and daughter Tara Terry (Sky), grandchildren Luke and Ella, and brothers Barton, Erik and Mark.
We will always remember his favorite saying, “Without data, you are just an opinion.”.
