Sun Ae Hong was born in Seoul, South Korea on February 7th 1946 to (father) Jong Yeol Hong and (mother) Sun Im Kim. She graduated from Daesung Women's High School in 1964 in Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea.
She was the wife of William (Bill) H Simms II. They Married on July 8th 1981 after meeting in South Korea. She was the loving mother to Jennifer, Rebecca, Laura and William R. Simms.
Her grandchildren include Rachael Daley and McKenzie (River) Ingersoll.
She also leaves behind her sister Soon In Bae, (Lakewood, WA), her brother Sun Young Hong (South Korea), brother Sun Jik Hong (wife HaeSuk) Lynnwood WA, and brother Sun Kweon Hong (South Korea). Many nieces and nephews to include HaeJung Bae (Lakewood WA), Kyung Hwan Bae, Min Hwan Bae, Gu Pyo Hong, Mihee Hong and others. Sun Ae had many friends that she loved to spend time with as well.
She was a 700 Club Gold Member and enjoyed watching (CBN) The Christian Broadcasting Network.
Sun Ae had her hands full, raising four children while husband Bill worked at the post office. She had a love for people and the obvious field of work for her when she began working was caregiving. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant for several years, working at Crista Ministries, Bethany and other locations. After nursing she worked in the laundry and floral industry and would later help a friend open up a Teriyaki shop in Mill Creek.
Sun Ae was a big fan of continuing education and always encouraged her children to continue on with their education. She was even known to take some of the same classes that her children were taking so she could be by their side.
Some of her brightest moments were joining the Korean women's choir and playing at a concert at Edmonds Community College with her family in attendance and life events such as birthday celebrations, graduations and her daughter's weddings.
Sun Ae enjoyed photography, floral design, calligraphy and designing different projects with the ladies at the local Korean community center, Living Together in Lynnwood, WA.
In the past few years she started working in the grocery delivery business. She and husband Bill combined their businesses in one delivery vehicle and traveled all over Washington State getting as far east to Moses Lake all the way out to the Pacific Coast. She really loved taking those scenic rural drives, watching the wildlife, especially deer, geese and eagles. She enjoyed the beaches as well as nightly sunsets and took a lot of photographs along the way.
One of her best travel moments she had was up in Stanwood, WA where snow geese were flying overhead to Port Susan Bay with the sunset in the background. The birds were chirping in the background and it was a beautiful scene to experience back in February 2022. Video: https://youtu.be/F9nCqOvo8-Y
It has been a difficult time since Sun Ae was diagnosed with cancer in July 2022, but her family has been by her side giving her as much love as possible. That love 💕 will last forever. We are grateful that Sun Ae had very little pain and left us peacefully in her sleep. When asked the day before she left us, if she was anxious about dying, she confirmed to the Chaplain that she was not. Just three weeks earlier she had told Chaplain Andrew that she was in God's Hands. We have peace knowing that Sun Ae is with her Lord and Savior today and has eternal life.
Sun Ae is preceded in death by her father Jong Yeol Hong, mother Sun Im Kim and brothers Sun Kyung Hong and Sun Dong Hong.
We thank you and all of our friends for all of the prayers and concern you all have shown for Sun Ae and our family over the past 4 months. We appreciate you very much.
