Stella M. Farrington

Stella M. (Barzda) Farrington passed away at home in Lynnwood, WA, on November 1, 2020, at the age of 99. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and lived most of her life in Alliance, Ohio, where she graduated from Alliance High School, married and raised her family. In her senior years, she moved to Washington State to live with her daughter. Stella was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene A. Farrington in 1977. She also had 2 brothers who preceded her in death, John Barzda and Bruno Barzda. Her parents, John and Kamilia Barzda, immigrated from Lithuania and passed away soon after she married. She has a son and spouse, Leonard A. (Gloria) Farrington; daughter, Linda S. Farrington; and raised her nieces, Kathy (Barzda) Hahn and Sandra (Barzda) DeLong after losing their parents. She also has 4 grandchildren, Scott Farrington, Kimberly Davis, Heather Farrington, and Elizabeth Farrington; great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Stella had a huge heart of gold. She was always there for anyone who needed her. Her brother, John, and his wife died at a very young age and left 10 children. She was always there for him and his family no matter the time of day. She was able to provide a home for 2 of the children and raise them to adulthood. This is but one example of her humanitarianism and love of neighbor.
Stella mastered many interests. She enjoyed planting flower beds in the spring and watching them grow and bloom. Living her last years in an apartment, she enjoyed fresh cut flowers on the table every week. She excelled at sewing and spent many hours at her sewing machine creating things such as doll clothes, women’s wear, as well as her own dress for her daughter's wedding. She also enjoyed plastic canvas embroidery and filled her daughter’s home with pillows, tissue holders, pencil holders, table coasters, and pot holders. But the one thing everyone enjoyed was Stella’s cooking and baking! Holidays, special occasions, and summer barbecues were a feast! Her home was filled with the aroma of the delicious food she prepared. When she was employed as a cook at the Roselawn Gardens Nursing Home in Alliance, Ohio, the residents always looked forward to the days she worked there!
Stella also loved to travel! She was her daughter’s constant travel companion. Together, they traveled all over the United States, including Alaska, Hawaii several times, Canada and Mexico. She enjoyed her cruises to Alaska and Mexico as well as the train to Vancouver, Canada. Her favorite spot on the west coast was Cannon Beach, Oregon, where she enjoyed many vacation weeks on the beach! She loved to tide pool and even spared the life of a crab she found out in the open from becoming someone’s dinner!
Stella had a kind heart but was a fighter, too. She fought for her life and won on more than one occasion. She survived several life-threatening health issues including open heart surgery and Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma 3 times. She was strong and faced these challenges with faith and a positive attitude. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. She never gave up. She fought for life to the very end, but, at 99, her body had been through enough. She passed peacefully at home under hospice care. Leaving a life well-lived and fulfilled in service to others. This very special soul will be missed by many she has left behind.
